THE RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE

The Inter-Residence Hall Council (IRHC) is the umbrella organization for all hall councils, student organizations within each residence hall at NYU. The IRHC promotes community building, service and advocacy for the nearly 12,000 residents on campus as well as the NYU community at large.

The IRHC is a subcommittee of the Student Government Assembly, the greater NYU student government system, and represents student opinions on issues of residential education, housing, public safety and other concerns.

Hello, NYU Students!

Thanks for stopping by the Inter-Residence Hall Council (IRHC)’s little corner of the internet! Whether this is your first time here or you have been here before, thanks for coming!

We represent all students dorming in NYU residence halls! If you’re a resident curious about your fellow students who represent you, or you’re an off-campus student here to learn more about all our awesome programming, we have a lot to show off!

On this website, you’ll find all the information needed to learn about our marvelous marquee events, astonishing advocacy initiatives, and superb service events. Our goal is always to remain inclusive and serve students like YOURSELF, so please, feel free to interact with us and our website!

If you’re looking to get involved with IRHC or our hall councils, check out our Getting Involved page for more information.

If you want to hear more about the biggest marquee events on campus (Flurry, UVL, and more!), click our Marquee Events page

If you have any suggestions or feedback for residence life (including complaints or praises about your life in the dorms), please feel free to submit something to our Advocacy Box.

Still confused about what we do, or want to learn more about one of NYU’s oldest student governments on campus, visit our About page.

Want to check out more about the IRHC leaders who wrote/created this page and will be representing you for the next year, meet us at the IRHC Executive Council page.

I hope that if you feel so inclined, you join IRHC. Joining this organization just might have been the best decision that I made as a freshman at NYU. Never would I have thought that my decision to run for Lipton Hall Council would blossom into working as the VP of Advocacy, to now serving all students as the President of IRHC. If you ever want to meet, I have office hours set up here, or if you have any questions, please feel free to reach me at cs7257@nyu.edu or Residential Life & Housing Services at housing@nyu.edu.

With Love,

Housie & Your IRHC E-Council

Staff

Hello Pro-Staff and ResLife extraordinaires!

Thank you so much for your interest in  the Inter-Residence Hall Council (IRHC)! We hope that you encourage your students to get involved in hall council and our expansive programming! The IRHC’s mission, as a student organization within Residential Life and Housing Services, is to improve the residential experience by supporting students within New York University’s residence halls. Be that through events or advocacy, we do it all!

There are several opportunities for your students to get actively involved in the Inter-Residence Hall Council, including attending General Assembly (GA) meetings and participating in an IRHC committee.

Getting involved in the IRHC and Hall Council at NYU is extremely simple! Here are a few ways that you can get your students excited about the IRHC and Hall Council.

  • Take your students to an IRHC sponsored event. IRHC events are a great opportunity for you to connect with your residents and can also serve as an opportunity for students to get excited about residential leadership experiences.

  • Talk to your residents about their past leadership experience and encourage them to get involved in the IRHC and/or Hall Council. Sometimes all it takes to get students really excited about hall council is a suggestion from one of their peers.

  • Ask your residents to help you plan a program. Allowing your residents to help you in the program planning process may spark their interest and will provide them with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills.

  • Take your students to an IRHC or Hall Council meeting. IRHC and Hall Council meetings serve as a forum for students to express their ideas, concerns, and opinions about policies and/ or procedures that impact the residential community. Students not elected to Hall Council are always welcome to join our GA as a representative in an unofficial capacity. We highly encourage this form of participation as well as this is still a valid path to more leadership opportunities in IRHC and is the pathway one of our current executive council members took to get to where they are today!

  • Most importantly, you can support your residents in their student leadership endeavors by recognizing their efforts and talking with them about what’s happening at Hall Council.

Once again, Thank You for visiting the IRHC’s home on the web. If you have any questions regarding the Inter-Residence Hall Council please feel free to contact us!

Hope to see you around!
